Plan your own seven-day walk from Tarvisio, past the Fusine Lakes and Rifugio Zacchi, through Slovenia and Austria, and back to Italy. This Hut Hikes guide brings together suggested overnight stops, lodging links and practical planning information. Check the official stage maps against your chosen stays, particularly the Nötsch/Feistritz variant.
Loading the map. Places along the route are listed below.
Location overview: numbered pins mark approximate places. Dotted connections show their order, not the walking path. Use the linked route maps for navigation.
OFFICIAL ROUTE
Match the stages to your stays.
Use the official circular-route stage maps to check your chosen overnight stops and walking direction. Pay particular attention to Warmbad Villach and the Nötsch/Feistritz variant.
Hut Hikes provides a planning overview, not a downloadable GPX or turn-by-turn route. Open the official stage pages for detailed maps and available navigation options, and match them to your chosen stays.
Download the official trail booklet and confirm that its circular-tour pages match your selected direction and overnight stops. Print relevant maps as backup.
Checked 27 September 2026: the official overview lists the circuit as accessible, but the detailed Warmbad–Nötsch roadbook still carries a forestry closure and diversion via Pungartweg. Check the detailed notice and local signage before walking.
Rifugio Zacchi operates seasonally. Its website's undated closure notice does not confirm future overnight availability. Contact the refuge for your dates before booking the remaining circuit. Snow may affect high stages even when the hut is open; check current trail conditions.
The booklet is dated 2022. Check current official stage notices before travel. The Hut Hikes dotted map shows the order of places, not the walking path. Approximate distances and elevations use the published Tarvisio circuit figures from Walks Worldwide; access to your chosen hotel and route variants can change them.

This is a DIY information planner. Hut Hikes does not book accommodation, arrange transfers or provide a guide. Choose and book your stays and services directly; commercial self-guided holidays are compared separately below.
DIY starting plan · seven walking days
Your time budget includes an arrival night, seven walking days and a night after the final walk: eight nights, with departure on day nine. Book each stay yourself. Rest days add nights. Room and luggage selections record preferences; they do not reserve a room or transfer. Private rooms may not be available at the refuge.
Walking-day ranges are planning estimates, not a booked daily itinerary. Choose actual overnight stops and check stage distances before reserving. Rest days add time; they do not shorten walking stages.
Seven named stays are shown in walking order, with Tarvisio repeated at the finish. Each has a direct booking/enquiry link, a route-map pin and Google Maps. These are independent suggestions, not a confirmed operator hotel list. Read each access note: a stay in the stage town is not necessarily on the trail, and unmeasured connections are identified.
Know how close the bed is before you book
On the trail means the property or official route source places the stay directly on the Way—no separate off-route transfer is normally planned. Near / stage stop means the stay is at a named stage stop, start or finish; the access note gives the most specific credible distance or relationship we found.
Use the named stay as your map anchor. "View hotel on route map" pins the property alongside approximate stage places. The dotted connections are not the surveyed trail and cannot measure a hotel-to-trail distance. "Open in Google Maps" helps inspect paths and directions; check the official route map for the marked trail. Any access distance or time below comes from its linked source and is labelled when property-reported.

Stays & trail access
1 Tarvisio
11.8 mi / 19.0 km to Rifugio Zacchi
Approximate ascent 985 m; descent 355 m. Figures vary with lodging access and route variant.
Via Kugy 1, central Tarvisio. The official Zacchi-stage roadbook starts in central Tarvisio and heads to Parco Cervi via Via delle Pinete; Haberl is listed among its accommodation options. Ask reception to connect you to this signed start. Entrance-to-trail walking distance is unmeasured.
The named overnight refuge on this circuit, with 20 beds and meals. Checked 27 September 2026: the website shows an undated closed/reopens-in-December notice and general May–September summer opening; its latest dated summer announcement is for 2025. Confirm overnight dates directly at +39 333 3080555 or info@rifugiozacchi.com before booking the circuit.
Vitranška ulica 13, Kranjska Gora. Use the official stage maps and your chosen arrival and departure paths to connect this town hotel to the route; an on-trail entrance is not verified. Ask the hotel to mark the walking connection and any pickup point before booking. The published 850 m / 12-minute bus-station walk is transport information, not distance to the trail.
The hotel states that the Kranjska Gora stage starts at its door; our itinerary walks it in reverse. This is the mountain stop above Faaker See, not a lakeshore stay. Confirm resident meals on the advertised Monday/Tuesday restaurant closure days.
The Alpe-Adria-Trail roadbook explicitly follows the path behind Hotel Warmbaderhof toward the Roman road. Confirm the entrance-to-path connection with reception; that short access distance has not been measured. Address: Kadischenallee 22–24.
Nötsch 15. The official Warmbad–Nötsch roadbook finishes through Saak, past the Wiegele bakery and museum, toward Peace Park; Hotel Marko is listed among its local points of interest. Confirm the hotel connection and next day's Nötsch variant. Entrance-to-trail distance is unmeasured. The property says it does not accept cards.
Via Alpi Giulie 38, Valbruna. The official next-stage roadbook heads along the Val Saisera road before turning toward Monte Lussari. Ask the hotel to identify the signed connection from its entrance; the walking distance is unmeasured. Use the stage track, not the similarly named cycle route.
These are lodging starting points, not reserved rooms. Access notes and any quoted distances come from the linked sources. Confirm your dates, room type, actual walking route and luggage collection with each property before booking.

Opening days and meal arrangements change. Reserve meals at remote overnight stops, request packed lunches in advance and fill or buy water before each walking section. Official top-up taps are useful planning anchors, but always check current availability.
This is a planning guide, not a promise that a café, shop, meal service or tap will be open. Confirm dietary needs, packed lunches, dinner reservations and water access directly before walking.
LUGGAGE TRANSFERS
Choose how often the larger bag moves.
Arrange transfers separately when booking your own walk.
Contact these local services about your exact overnight stops. Neither is verified as a luggage service for the whole seven-day circuit. Plan to carry your refuge-night essentials and confirm where your main bag will wait. Package holiday luggage arrangements appear in the trip comparison below.

Arriving
Compare rail connections to Tarvisio Boscoverde from your arrival airport or rail gateway. Arrange the station-to-hotel connection; the station is outside the center.
After the final walk
The last stage is a mountain day via Monte Lussari. A separately booked Tarvisio night allows departure the next morning without relying on a tight evening connection.
Intermediate transport
Warmbad Villach and Kranjska Gora are useful places to investigate an exit or rest day. Hotel Miklič lists local bus-station access and can help arrange paid transfers. Baumgartnerhof advertises transfers to Faak station and Kranjska Gora; reserve ahead.
Verify dated services, last departures and the exact hotel pickup point. No timetable or transfer availability is guaranteed here.
05 / TRIPS OFFERED ON THIS TRAIL
Compare walking trips and a cycling alternative.
Four self-guided trip listings are available: two Tarvisio-based circuits and two alternative Villach-based itineraries. MaroWays uses Feistritz instead of Nötsch; the Villach alternatives use transfers and day walks without a Zacchi overnight. Eurohike describes its trip as a partner tour, so separate sellers may share local arrangements. No scheduled guided circuit has been verified. A separate Eurobike cycling option follows the Alpe Adria Cycle Path from Villach to Trieste via Tarvisio; it is a one-way Austria–Italy journey, not this three-country walking loop.
5 trip options from 5 operators.
Self-guided options are listed below. Use the Service filter above to separate them. This is a researched selection, not every provider or itinerary. Examples checked 27 September 2026. Starting prices are per person; check your dates, room basis, single supplements and inclusions. Currencies are shown as advertised.

BEFORE THE BOOKINGS
Make the plan work on the ground.
Reserve the Rifugio Zacchi bed and meals before committing to this seven-day circuit. If the refuge is unavailable, choose a verified hotel-based alternative from the comparison rather than combining mountain stages. Match your navigation track to the Nötsch or Feistritz overnight variant and read current stage notices. Hotel access notes distinguish verified route relationships from unmeasured connections.
Confirm an indoor bed for every night, the distance to each stay, and how you will reach and leave the route.
