About this map

The dots use published tourism or property coordinates. They mark general locations; exact entrances and walking approaches have not been checked. Tannenhof and the wine-barrel stay are outside this village-centre view. The map does not show the walking loops or an elevation profile.

02 / MAKE ROOM FOR THE WALK

Your two walking days.

WALKING DAY 1

Waterfalls and vineyard paths

About 5.0 mi / 8 km · 2¼ hours walking

Northern Schnapsbrunnenweg 1. Waterfall steps, orchard slopes and small tasting stops. Return to your village hotel.

Day 1 details

Start and finish at the Kurhaus “Zum Alde Gott”, Talstraße 51. The route climbs through the Gaishöll waterfalls on steps and bridges, then loops back through orchards and vineyards. Allow a half-day with stops; the leaflet gives about 283 m ascent.

Wet steps can be slippery. Follow the numbered route signs and the official map.

WALKING DAY 2

Hillside views and farm stops

About 8.1 mi / 13 km · 4 hours walking

Southern Schnapsbrunnenweg 2. A longer circuit through the hills, returning past the old mill to the pool end of the village.

Day 2 details

Begin in the Kurhaus / swimming-pool start area, beside the minigolf and Höfner Stübl. The official directions return here. Allow most of the day with stops; the leaflet gives about 490 m ascent.

Expect road crossings and a roadside section near the Hörchenberg viewpoint. The Brigittenschloss ruins are an optional uphill detour. Use the official signed circuit.

03 / SLEEP SOMEWHERE MEMORABLE

Choose one base for all three nights.

Private rooms, village dinners and no daily bag transfers. Compare the full price and cancellation terms for your dates.

PRACTICAL VILLAGE BASE

Naturhotel Holzwurm

Timber-framed rooms and apartments near the pool end of the village, with a sauna and Vesperstube.

Room, arrival & booking details

Am Altenrain 12. A useful base for the southern start area; begin the northern loop at the Kurhaus. Ask the host for the safest pedestrian approach and any early or late bag storage.

Check room availability, the exact room or apartment, and breakfast and dinner arrangements.

Property location ↗

WORTH THE SPLURGE

Der Engel

A historic village hotel with modern air-conditioned rooms and a restaurant for a special evening. Look at the premium balcony rooms.

Room, arrival & booking details

Talstraße 14. The published northern route passes the hotel area; both walks can still begin at their signed village starts.

Reserve dinner separately. The restaurant currently closes on Mondays. Verify room, meal and cancellation terms for your dates.

POOL & SAUNA ALTERNATIVE

RelaxHotel Tannenhof

A quieter hillside stay on the northern route, with a pool and sauna for the end of the day.

Room, arrival & booking details

Murberg 6. The northern walk passes the property. The southern start is down in the village, so allow an extra approach and uphill return, or arrange a taxi.

The hotel advertises a two-night walking offer with breakfast, a lunch pack, pole loan and wellness access. Ask about a third night and whether guiding is available for either loop.

AN UNUSUAL EXTRA NIGHT

Schlafen im Weinfass

Sleep in a wine barrel on the hillside near the southern route. Best treated as an optional one- or two-night extension.

Room, arrival & booking details

Each barrel has a private toilet; showers are at the farm. Cars cannot reach the barrels, so you carry bags for the final approach. Guests under 16 are not accepted.

The advertised stay is for one or two nights for two people. Ask before assuming a three-night stay is possible.

04 / THE PRACTICAL DETAILS

Make the weekend your own.

Transport, bags & getting back

Travel by train to Achern, then use bus 400 or 423 into Sasbachwalden. Choose the stop nearest your accommodation and check the timetable for your date and direction. Use a prebooked taxi if your arrival is late or the hotel approach is inconvenient.

Keep your main bag in the room throughout the two walks. Ask the hotel before relying on storage before check-in or after check-out. Leave after your third night by bus or taxi back to Achern.

Participating hosts issue a KONUS guest card for eligible second-class local buses and trains during your stay and departure. It does not cover the initial arrival journey or long-distance trains.

Guided walks & a little local support

Self-guided

Book a room and follow the local route signs and leaflet. Individuals do not need to book the walks. Sasbachwalden Tourist-Info is in the Kurhaus; ask about temporary diversions before setting out.

A guide for your group

The Tourist-Info arranges individual guided walks and accepts small-group enquiries. Its standard advertised walk is about 3.1 mi / 5 km and 2–3 hours. Ask whether a guide is available for your chosen loop, dates and preferred language.

A gentler add-on

Alde Gott’s “Ausblick” guided wine walk is about 1.9 mi / 3 km and 1½ hours with tastings. This is a separate vineyard outing. Tannenhof’s hotel walking offer is another way to add local support.

A shorter, two-night version

Arrive on the first evening, walk the northern loop on your full day and leave the next morning. That keeps the waterfall, orchard and fountain experience without fitting both walks into one day.

Food, fountains & what to carry

Bring coins for the self-service honesty boxes, your own drinking water and snacks. The spring water cools the bottles; do not assume it is drinking water. Alcohol-free options are available, though individual fountain stock varies.

Keep tastings small, take alcohol-free options whenever you like and do not drive after drinking. Book dinner separately where needed and check restaurant closure days. The Engel is a food-focused choice; Holzwurm has a small Vesperstube.

Wear grippy walking shoes and carry a rain layer. Spring through autumn is the simplest planning choice. Snow, frost and storms can affect footing or access, and bottles may be locked away overnight. Check locally and finish before dark.

Route numbers, distances & sources

The leaflet currently linked by Sasbachwalden Tourism gives 8 km / 283 m / 2¼ hours for the north and 13 km / 490 m / 4 hours for the south. The distances and times above use those approximate figures. Web listings still show 7.44 km / 281 m / 2:10 and 12.76 km / 431 m / 4:00. Hotel approaches and optional detours are extra.

Some web metadata calls the southern walk linear, but the full directions return to the pool car park, the leaflet shows a circuit, and DVV names Höfner Stübl as start and finish. Use one current route source consistently and follow local signs.

Research checked 7 October 2026. Current access, exact hotel-door routes, transport connections and date-specific availability still need confirmation before travel.
