Walk through open meadows beneath jagged peaks, then spend the night at Col Raiser, a mountain hotel with private-bathroom rooms. The next day brings high meadows, a summit viewpoint and a walk back down to the valley.

  1. Before the walk: Use Santa Cristina–Selva, the valley villages, as your base if needed. Arrange a ride to Daunëi, the trailhead, and any hotel bag storage.
  2. Day 1: Walk up through meadows to Col Raiser and spend one night in the mountain hotel. Carry your overnight kit.
  3. Day 2: Explore the high meadows and Seceda viewpoint, then walk down to the valley lift station. A seasonal gondola can replace the descent.

Walk up from Daunëi through the Cisles meadows, passing Juac and Rifugio Firenze on the way to Col Raiser. Spend one night at Almhotel Col Raiser, with an en-suite room and the chance to enjoy its advertised meals and spa. The next morning, explore Mastlé and Pieralongia, follow lower trail 1, then take the western path to Seceda’s summit viewpoint and return the same way. Back at Col Raiser, walk down via Firenze and Sangon to the valley station, or take the seasonal gondola if it’s running. About this map and its limits

The purple lines follow the walk up, the Seceda circuit and the descent to the valley. Day one is about 4.9 km; the circuit is about 8.3 km, with another 5.1 km if you walk down. Follow lower trail 1 and take the western path out and back to Seceda’s viewpoint. This circuit differs from the official UNESCO hike and avoids the paid eastern ridge and currently inaccessible Pana saddle. Expect rough mountain paths, steps, gates and stiles. Ask locally about access, snow and footing, including whether you can pass the gate on the Pieralongia traverse. The line passes near the UNESCO viewpoint; the final approach to the platform hasn’t been checked. Hotel entrances, lift boarding and final walks to valley hotels aren’t shown. The blue dashed gondola line appears when you choose that option; confirm its dates, fare, boarding point and last descent. Distances are map estimates, and a complete ascent-and-descent profile hasn’t been confirmed. Carry a current topographic map for navigation.

02 / MAKE ROOM FOR THE WALK

Your two days in the mountains.

The first day is the shorter climb to your hotel. Allow a full second day for the views and the walk down.

Stage distances, ascent & place names

Day one is about 4.9 km from Daunëi via Juac and Firenze to Col Raiser. On day two, the Mastlé, Pieralongia and Seceda circuit is about 8.3 km, including the western summit path out and back. Walking down via Firenze and Sangon adds about 5.1 km, making day two 13.4 km and the trip 18.3 km. Take the seasonal gondola instead and you’ll walk 13.2 km in total. These are map estimates, before the final approaches to hotel entrances and lift boarding. The full ascent and descent hasn’t been confirmed. Official route 6 follows a different circuit, so its elevation figures and times don’t describe this version.

MEALS, SNACKS & DRINKING WATER

Your food and water, in walking order.

Opening days and meal arrangements change. Reserve meals at remote overnight stops, request packed lunches in advance and fill or buy water before each walking section. Check that any planned drinking-water refill will be available.

This is a planning guide, not a promise that a café, shop, meal service or tap will be open. Confirm dietary needs, packed lunches, dinner reservations and water access directly before walking.

LUGGAGE & BASE STORAGE

Carry the mountain kit; store the rest.

Plan the overnight pack and any valley storage separately.

Travel with a small overnight pack. If you use a valley hotel before and after the walk, arrange main-bag storage directly; split stays do not automatically include it. Changing hotels also means planning the luggage handover.

OPTIONAL VALLEY STORAGE

Give the main bag a home.

Ask the hotel to hold your main bag while you’re in the mountains. Agree the dates, fee and collection hours in writing, even if it advertises a luggage room or ski store.

ON THE WALK

Carry what you need overnight.

Carry your clothing, weather protection, water, food, map, headtorch and personal essentials. Plan to carry everything you need overnight; no baggage transfer along this route has been confirmed.

Confirm current prices, operating dates, collection times, excluded properties, bag limits, liability and any finish storage directly.

YOUR OVERNIGHT KIT

What to pack for this route

Keep the overnight bag light, with enough mountain kit for the complete Seceda circuit and your chosen descent.

  • Footwear and layers Mountain footwear, waterproofs, a warm layer and sun protection.
  • Food and water Supplies for the full walking day, with a fallback if huts or refreshment stops are closed.
  • Navigation and light A current area map, offline backup, charged phone and headtorch.
  • Hotel essentials Personal items and swimwear if you plan to use the advertised pool or spa; confirm facilities and your rate’s inclusions.
  • A comfortable overnight pack Use one that fits your complete kit and water; test it on a walk before the trip.
  • Optional walking poles Practise folding and securing them when you need free hands. Folding poles are not automatically allowed in cabin baggage; check departure, transit and return-airport rules and your airline.

The lift is part of the plan only when confirmed. Before choosing the gondola finish, confirm current access, the weather, operating dates and the last descent. Both versions include the full mountain circuit and summit spur. Ask about the final paths to the hotel and lift, which haven’t been checked. The walking route’s full ascent and descent also remains unconfirmed.

Get there—and get back—simply

A valley hotel near the Col Raiser station in Santa Cristina–Selva makes a useful base. Arrange a transfer to Daunëi for the start, then return to the Col Raiser valley station on foot or by seasonal gondola. Check the onward walk to your hotel or arrange local transport. If you leave a car at Daunëi, plan how you’ll collect it.

Open the practical transport guide

Arrange the outward transfer

The official Val Gardena directory lists Taxi Alpin di Leo Runggaldier, +39 333 3222666. Ask for pickup from your valley hotel and agree a safe stopping place near the signed Daunëi trailhead. Get a written price for your date, group and bags, and ask about journey time. The fare and drop-off arrangements need confirmation.

Walk out or take the gondola

You can walk the final 5.1 km from Col Raiser via Firenze and Sangon to the valley station, or take the seasonal gondola after the full circuit. For the gondola, confirm operating dates, fare, last descent and the path from the hotel to boarding. Exact 2027 operation hasn’t been confirmed.

Reach your valley hotel

Jägerheim describes a one-minute walk to the gondola, but the exact route to its entrance hasn’t been measured. Interski needs a further street walk or local transfer. Ask your hotel about safe pedestrian access, crossings and luggage collection.

The mountain hotel’s published arrival guidance focuses on cable-car access. Obtain written confirmation that your planned walking arrival and check-in work; no luggage delivery or summer pickup is assumed.

Optional valley splurge & extra nights

SPECIAL STAYS & EXTRA DAYS

A little more time, or a more comfortable night.

These are optional additions to the walking plan. A room upgrade replaces that night’s room; an extra night or excursion needs its own booking and transport. Nothing below changes your selected stages automatically.

OPTIONAL VALLEY SPLURGE

Hotel Interski

A four-star hotel just above Santa Cristina with a spa and an indoor–outdoor infinity pool. It’s farther from the finish than Jägerheim, so allow for the extra walk or transfer if you choose it for a night before or after the hike.

How it fits: From the Col Raiser valley station, allow an extra street walk to Cisles 51 or arrange a local transfer. Ask the hotel for the walking route and whether it offers summer pickup; neither has been confirmed. Arrange a separate transfer to Daunëi for day one.

Nights: Add one valley hotel night before or after the two-day walk if it suits your travel plans. If you already planned a valley night, choosing this hotel replaces that room rather than adding another night. A full recovery day needs another separately booked night.

Costs to add: Request a dated total for your exact room, meals and spa access. Prices, treatment bookings, day passes and availability are not confirmed.

Check dates on the hotel’s booking page or Booking.com, or send a non-binding enquiry. Availability and one-night rates haven’t been checked for your trip. Confirm any one-night or split stay, meals, spa access, local transfer and overnight luggage storage between stays before booking.

Adding a rest day in the planner allows another night; it does not choose a property or reserve an activity. Confirm the room, meals, transport and any extra costs, then include them once in the budget below.
