A pale limestone plateau, the Siëles crossing and a woodland walk to Ortisei.

Start at Gardena Pass, cross the pale, rocky Puez plateau and finish among the meadows beneath the Odle. Two hut nights give the route an unhurried shape: Puez first, then Firenze, followed by a woodland descent through San Giacomo into Ortisei. This is a custom DIY itinerary assembled from established public paths, including part of Alta Via 2. It is not the complete Alta Via, the full Curona de Gherdëina or a verified operator package. The main plan uses one outward taxi and walks all the way back to the original town without a lift. Expect rough, exposed mountain paths and a short section with fixed safety cables near Forcella de Siëles. You’ll need sure-footedness and confidence with heights, even though the trip is only three walking days.

Purple dashed lines show the three-day walking route from Gardena Pass via Puez and Firenze to Ortisei. Pins 1–4 mark the start, two hut nights and finish. Confirm the final approaches to the huts and your hotel; hotel approaches beyond Ortisei's parish area are not shown.

About this map and its limits

Purple dashed lines show the three-day walking route from Gardena Pass via Puez and Firenze to Ortisei. Pins 1–4 mark the start, two hut nights and finish. Confirm the final approaches to the huts and your hotel; hotel approaches beyond Ortisei's parish area are not shown. The first day follows AV2 via Jimmy, the Cir, Crespeina and Ciampei passes. The first 225 m is shown along the SS243 road approach. Confirm a safe taxi stopping place and roadside walking arrangement; the line down the centre of the road does not show whether there is a pavement. The second day follows path 2 across Siëles to Firenze, including exposed ground and a short rock section with fixed safety cables. Pana and the Nives/Piz Duleda ferrata are not part of this route. Before walking, ask the huts about stream crossings, the gate and stile shown on the map, snow and trail access. The third day follows the Col Raiser, San Giacomo and Val d'Anna route to the parish area. Authorized vehicles use Streda Val d'Anna, and continuous pavement has not been verified. Confirm exact entrance directions and current trail signs locally. No verified elevation profile is available. Use this map for planning and carry a current topographic map for navigation. The line follows connected paths recorded on OpenStreetMap; it has not been checked on the ground or for current conditions.

02 / MAKE ROOM FOR THE WALK

Three walking days. Two hut nights. Back to your base on foot.

Taxi to Gardena Pass. Two hut nights. Walk back to Ortisei.

Stage distances, ascent & place names

Italian and German names often appear together: Ortisei is St. Ulrich, Gardena Pass is Grödner Joch, Rifugio Puez is Puezhütte, and Rifugio Firenze is Regensburgerhütte. The Firenze refuge is in Val Gardena, not in the city of Florence. The plan contains two mountain-hut nights. Add one hotel night before and another afterward for four overnights in the area. Choose the same Ortisei property for both valley nights if you want one base for your larger bag. At a glance: day one is about 7.2 km / 4.5 mi, measured from the tourism GPX, with a three-to-four-hour allowance. Day two is also about 7.2 km / 4.5 mi; a reversed published route profile gives approximately 220 m ascent and 660 m descent, with around three hours of walking plus stops. The selected final day is about 10.9 km / 6.8 mi to Ortisei's parish area, then about 0.6 km to Walter's street frontage or 0.14 km to ADLER's. These last-day figures are assembled map-network estimates, with climbs near Col Raiser and the church approach. Exact guest doors, the final day's elevation profile and walking time, first-day cumulative elevation and whole-trip totals remain unverified.

THE WALKING PLAN

Three walking days · two hut nights

3 walking days · distance to confirm

Travel sequence: Ortisei hotel → taxi to Passo Gardena → Rifugio Puez, night one → Forcella de Siëles → Rifugio Firenze, night two → path 4 via Col Raiser and the San Giacomo church connection → selected path-6/Val d'Anna walking finish → Ortisei centre → hotel.

The walking core has two mountain-hut nights. The outline also includes one arrival hotel night and one return hotel night in Ortisei, for four nights in the area. Reserve all of these separately.

This guide currently describes one complete DIY plan. The operator alternatives below may change the nights, route or finish; they are not automatic shortcuts to this walk.

Three walking days · two hut nights

Travel sequence: Ortisei hotel → taxi to Passo Gardena → Rifugio Puez, night one → Forcella de Siëles → Rifugio Firenze, night two → path 4 via Col Raiser and the San Giacomo church connection → selected path-6/Val d'Anna walking finish → Ortisei centre → hotel.

This is a starting plan, not a reservation. Confirm every overnight stay, walking stage and required lift or transfer for the same dates. Rest days add time and another night; they do not shorten a walking stage.

Your walking days

03 / THE PLACES ALONG THE WAY

Shape the days around the stays.

Reserve Rifugio Puez / Puezhütte for night one and Rifugio Firenze / Regensburgerhütte for night two. Arrival and return hotels in Ortisei are separate. Agree split stays and storage through both hut nights. Prices and availability have not been checked.

Know exactly which refuge bed you are reserving

Mountain-hut nights and valley hotel nights are separate bookings. Reserve the named huts for consecutive nights, then confirm your hotel's split stays, luggage storage and exact walking approach.

The map shows only evidenced walking segments and sourced locations. Missing sections and unsurveyed guest entrances are not joined. Use current topographic maps and local hut advice for navigation.

Read the button before booking. "Check dates" opens an online booking page. Email and form enquiries need a reply. Even with a confirmed room, arrange meals, trail access and luggage separately.

1 Passo Gardena / Grödner Joch4.5 mi / 7.2 km to Rifugio Puez / Puezhütte

Take your prebooked taxi to Passo Gardena / Grödner Joch. Follow the signed approach toward Jimmy Hütte and the Alta Via 2 walking route through the Cir, Crespëina and Ciampei passes to the Puez plateau and Rifugio Puez. Allow three to four hours for about 7.2 km / 4.5 mi from Gardena Pass to Puez, excluding the taxi and longer stops. The distance is measured from the first section of Alta Badia Tourism's public GPX; its full outing continues to Colfosco, which is not part of this day. The hut-owning CAI Bolzano section gives three hours for the approach. Cumulative ascent and descent still vary materially between sources, so no precise elevation total is claimed. This is high, open mountain terrain with rocky footing and several passes. Follow the normal signed walking route; a nearby summit or ferrata is not part of the day's plan. Carry enough food and water to reach Puez without relying on an intermediate kitchen being open. The independently reconstructed OSM planning line measures about 7.25 km and begins with approximately 225 m on the mapped SS243 road approach. That line is a road centreline, not a verified pavement or safe stopping place: agree the taxi drop-off and signed walking approach locally. Check the mapped gate and stream crossings for current conditions.

Practical hotel base · private rooms

Use the same property for arrival and return nights if split stays and luggage storage are agreed. The outward taxi and final hotel approach are separate from the mountain-hut bookings.

Practical base: Hotel Garni Walter, Ortisei. The family-run property at Via Palmer 1 is close to the centre and restaurants, with a breakfast buffet featuring homemade cakes and regional products. It is a useful B&B-style base before and after the walk. Use garniwalter.it: the similarly named property on another domain is in Santa Cristina. Its Palmer address is on the rising south side of the centre, so allow a final uphill town walk. “Practical” describes the style and location, not a verified cheapest rate. Confirm split stays, dates, rates, breakfast time and two-night luggage storage.

The written-offer button opens Hotel Garni Walter’s enquiry form; submitting it needs a reply and does not reserve a room. The Booking.com button opens the property listing so you can check dates and terms. Confirm split stays, luggage storage, your room, meals, payment and cancellation conditions with the property. No room, rate or booking is confirmed.

2 Rifugio Puez / Puezhütte4.5 mi / 7.2 km to Rifugio Firenze / Regensburgerhütte

Follow path 2 from Puez west toward Forcella de Siëles / Forces de Siëles, then descend into Val Cisles to Rifugio Firenze / Regensburgerhütte. Firenze's owner lists this connection as 7.2 km / 4.5 mi and three hours in the opposite direction. Alpenventures UNGUIDED publishes an exact Firenze–Puez profile with 661 m ascent and 220 m descent; reversed for this itinerary, that is approximately 220 m climbing and 660 m descending. Allow around three hours plus breaks and extra time for the protected passages and conditions. These are published route-profile figures, not a new field survey. The route crosses a shoulder near 2,600 m, higher than the named Siëles saddle. From Puez, expect exposure and a short cable-assisted rock section on the descent toward the saddle, followed by steep, loose ground into Val Cisles. The small distance does not make it an easy day. Have the huts or a qualified guide confirm the current crossing, equipment and suitability for your group; do not infer that a short cable section can always be crossed safely without protection. Do not add the Piz Duleda/Nives ferrata or other summit variants.

3 Rifugio Firenze / Regensburgerhütte6.8 mi / 10.9 km to Ortisei parish area

Follow path 4 toward Col Raiser, initially climbing from Firenze, then descend past Gamsblut and take the signed connection toward San Giacomo / St. Jakob church. This church approach includes an uphill branch via Peza. From the church, join path 6 west toward Col de Flam. At the wayside-shrine junction described by Ortisei tourism, turn onto the Val d'Anna woodland branch. The selected lower finish follows Streda Val d'Anna, passes the Seceda valley station on foot, then uses the footway/Streda Sacun connection to Ortisei's parish area. No summit ascent or cable-car journey is involved. Authorized vehicles use the Val d'Anna road; do not expect a wholly traffic-free finish. About 10.9 km / 6.8 mi from Firenze's hut-side path to the parish area, measured along existing mapped walking edges. Add approximately 0.6 km / 0.4 mi to Garni Walter's Palmer street frontage, or 0.14 km / 0.09 mi to ADLER's Rezia-7 frontage. The corresponding full-day estimates are about 11.5 km / 7.1 mi and 11 km / 6.8 mi, respectively. Neither endpoint is a verified guest door. The Walter approach includes town steps and a final rise; the hotel-frontage distances must not be treated as step-free access. Set aside a generous walking day rather than planning a tight onward connection. Firenze gives roughly four hours for the uphill Ortisei approach, but a dependable time or cumulative elevation profile for this precise return has not been established. The initial climb and church branch both interrupt the descent. Check the church-junction signs carefully. OpenStreetMap and Val Gardena's Peza description identify the church branch as 32, while the detailed town PDF labels part of that approach 4. Use the signed destination and current map together rather than assuming one number continues throughout. The assembled map route is continuous, but it is not an original official GPX or a field survey. The tourism page's downloadable San Giacomo route retraces a different branch from its written Val d'Anna option.

Almhotel Col Raiser ↗ (new tab)

Optional four-star mountain hotel · pool and spa

Swap the Firenze hut night for this mountain-hotel stay. Continue about 1.2 km beyond Firenze on the usual day-3 path to the Col Raiser area, roughly 25–35 minutes with some climbing; confirm the last stretch to the hotel separately. Day 2 becomes longer; day 3 starts farther along the route at Col Raiser. The Siëles crossing is unchanged. You still have two mountain nights: Puez hut, then Col Raiser hotel.

A mountain-hotel alternative with a pool, whirlpool, sauna and steam bath. The extra 1.2 km is measured to the Col Raiser vicinity, not the guest door; walking time is an estimate. The main itinerary above stops at Firenze. Choose this hotel instead of that hut booking, not in addition to it. Your Ortisei arrival and return hotel nights remain separate.

Before booking this option, ask the hotel to confirm a one-night stay, seasonal opening, arrival and check-in on foot, and the exact entrance. Its published arrival instructions focus on the cable car. Luggage transfer has not been verified. No room, price or availability is confirmed.

Opening days and meal arrangements change. Reserve meals at remote overnight stops, request packed lunches in advance and fill or buy water before each walking section. Official top-up taps are useful planning anchors, but always check current availability.

This is a planning guide, not a promise that a café, shop, meal service or tap will be open. Confirm dietary needs, packed lunches, dinner reservations and water access directly before walking.

LUGGAGE & BASE STORAGE

Carry the mountain kit; store the rest.

Plan the overnight pack and any valley storage separately.

Arrange for the hotel to keep your main suitcase through the two hut nights, confirming dates, any charge and collection hours in writing. Storage is by agreement; a hotel's ski or bike room does not establish permission to leave luggage between stays. Carry all your walking and overnight essentials between the huts, including the required liner, weather protection, warm layers, food, water, navigation, a headtorch and any route-specific equipment agreed after a conditions check.

HOTEL STORAGE

Agree where the main bag stays.

Request written confirmation covering both hut nights, the exact dates, any fee and collection hours. Ski or bike storage does not establish suitcase storage between stays.

ON THE MOUNTAIN

Carry your overnight kit.

No inter-hut baggage transfer is included. Carry the liner, weather protection, water, food, navigation, headtorch and personal essentials you need.

Confirm current prices, operating dates, collection times, excluded properties, bag limits, liability and any finish storage directly.

YOUR TWO-HUT-NIGHT KIT

What to pack for this route

Carry the kit you need for both hut nights. Agree storage for the larger travel bag with your Ortisei hotel.

  • Hut liner. Check each hut's current liner and sleeping rules before you pack.
  • Offline navigation and a matching current paper map. Save the detailed route information before leaving Wi-Fi and check coverage all the way into Ortisei. Puez recommends Tabacco 7 or Kompass 076; verify the current edition and coverage. This planning map is not a navigation download.
  • A comfortable pack you already own. Test it on a walk with your actual two-hut-night kit, including water, before deciding whether anything needs changing.
  • Mountain footwear and weather layers. Take warm layers and waterproof protection. Check conditions and any additional equipment needed for Siëles with the huts or a qualified local guide.
  • Water, food and a headtorch. Confirm meals and water access at each hut; carry enough for the walking stages and allow for delays.
  • Optional walking poles. Practise folding and securing them so your hands can be free on the protected passage. Folding poles are not automatically allowed in cabin baggage; check departure, transit and return-airport rules and your airline.

Settle the Siëles equipment question before departure. A general packing list cannot determine whether exposed, cable-assisted terrain suits your group or the conditions. Get a current, competent assessment of the route, snow and ice, and your group's skills.

Walk all the way back

The main itinerary uses no lift. A Seceda or Col Raiser descent would alter the third day and may require further transport; treat it as a separately planned, seasonal alternative rather than the default return.

Arrange the taxi only after both consecutive hut nights and your hotel plan are workable. Obtain a written total quote; no fare or driving time is promised.

SPECIAL STAYS & EXTRA DAYS

A little more time, or a more comfortable night.

These are optional additions to the walking plan. A room upgrade replaces that night’s room; an extra night or excursion needs its own booking and transport. Nothing below changes your selected stages automatically.

OPTIONAL VALLEY SPLURGE

ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI

Splurge base: ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI. A five-star resort at Strada Rezia 7, Ortisei, with a private park and extensive pools, saunas and spa facilities. Its own site describes buffet breakfast and a multi-course evening menu in its half-board offering. A comfortable recovery-night choice; confirm the season, room, board and spa services included in your selected rate.

How it fits: The property is in Ortisei. Finish the route on foot and continue to the booked hotel. If you change hotels, explicitly arrange which property stores your bag and how you collect it.

Nights: One return hotel night is already included in the four-night outline. Choosing this hotel instead adds no night. For a full recovery or spa day after the trek, book two return nights: one extra beyond the outline.

Costs to add: Request a dated quote for the exact room, meals and spa access. No rate, spa treatment, day pass or availability is assumed.

Confirm short-stay acceptance, spa access and opening hours. A late arrival may leave little spa time that day. Luggage storage requires the hotel’s agreement. The official destination listing links to this branded Ortisei booking engine. Its live booking flow and inventory could not be verified; use the hotel-information page to enquire if the engine does not open.

OPTIONAL SECOND MOUNTAIN NIGHT

Almhotel Col Raiser

Trade the second hut night for a mountain hotel with a pool and spa, a little farther along the walk.

How it fits: Swap the Firenze hut night for this mountain-hotel stay.

Nights: Replaces Firenze for mountain night 2; it adds no night. The mountain stays become Puez hut and Col Raiser hotel. Keep the separate arrival and return hotel nights in Ortisei.

Costs to add: Compare a dated hotel quote with the Firenze hut booking it replaces. No room price, supplement or new trip total is quoted.

Before booking this option, ask the hotel to confirm a one-night stay, seasonal opening, arrival and check-in on foot, and the exact entrance. Its published arrival instructions focus on the cable car. Luggage transfer has not been verified. No room, price or availability is confirmed.

Dolomites UNESCO viewpoint near Firenze

Where it fits: After reaching Firenze on day two, only with time, suitable conditions and current hut advice.

Optional time near Firenze: its published excursions include the Dolomites UNESCO viewpoint, listed at two kilometres and 45 minutes one-way. Consider this only after arriving early in good weather and confirming the return route with the hut. It adds walking rather than another hut night and is not included in the stage figures.

Nights to add: No extra hut night is built into this optional excursion.

Getting there and back: An extra out-and-back walk; no lift or taxi is part of it.

Costs to add: Any food or other services are separate. No paid activity or admission is assumed.

The hut lists two kilometres and 45 minutes one-way. Allow for the return and do not add those one-way figures to the main stage as a complete round trip.

Adding a rest day in the planner allows another night; it does not choose a property or reserve an activity. Confirm the room, meals, transport and any extra costs, then include them once in the budget below.

This custom DIY combination uses established public paths. Source routes may cover a different direction or longer outing; only the stated stage figures apply. Map-network distances are planning estimates, not field surveys or current-conditions clearance. No downloadable navigation file is supplied, and exact guest entrances remain unverified.

BEFORE THE BOOKINGS

Make the plan work
on the ground.

1. Confirm the Siëles crossing suits your group and settle equipment needs. 2. Secure consecutive Puez and Firenze nights, with board and bedding details. 3. Agree hotel split stays, two-night luggage storage and the outward taxi quote. 4. Validate the exact trail line, especially Siëles, the church-branch numbering, Val d'Anna finish and your hotel entrance. 5. Recheck hut seasons, snow, weather and path closures near departure.

Confirm an indoor bed for every night, the distance to each stay, and how you will reach and leave the route.
