Palaronda Trek

A high limestone world. Three welcoming huts. Four memorable days.

SELECTED WALKING LINEAbout 31.4 km / 19.5 mi
PLANNING PACE3–4 walking days
WALKING EFFORTChallenging high-mountain walking
SLEEP INDOORSThree mountain-refuge nights

Palaronda Trek was developed by a group of local hut managers. Our four-day plan follows their Rosetta–Pradidali–Treviso hut sequence, using direct trail 709 on day two and leaving the optional Fradusta summit excursion out of the mapped route. Start in San Martino di Castrozza, cross the Pale di San Martino plateau and finish with the Rosetta lift back to town. Allow about 31.4 km / 19.5 mi of walking. The final day climbs roughly 1,300 m before the lift.

The walking line uses direct path 709 on day two and leaves out the Fradusta summit/glacier approach. The last walking day ends at Rosetta’s upper station; the descent by lift is separate. Choose a day or a stay to inspect it, and confirm current conditions and lift operation.

About this map and its limits

The orange line follows the official stage GPXs, with the out-and-back Fradusta summit excursion removed at its exact junction. Numbered stops use the official track or CAI refuge coordinates. Lift travel is not drawn or included in walking distance. Grey segments sit outside your selected option. This is a planning map: use current topographic mapping and hut advice on the mountain.

The route shown here is about 31.4 km, measured on the map without allowing for slopes. It takes direct trail 709 on day two and leaves out the Fradusta summit excursion. The official 35.7 km figure includes that excursion and comes from a different GPS recording. Ask the huts for the climb and conditions on the direct day-two route; a confirmed ascent figure is not available here.

02 / CHOOSE YOUR SUPPORT

Your walk. Your way of travelling.

You can change this as you plan.

03 / MAKE ROOM FOR THE WALK

Three hut nights. Choose how you reach the plateau.

Walk up on day one, or take the lift to Rosetta and begin the three full walking stages the following morning. Both choices retain the long final climb. Added rest days need confirmed extra beds.

CHOOSE YOUR WALK

Four-day walking circuit · direct 709

4 walking days · 31.4 km / 19.5 mi

Walk up from San Martino, stay at Rosetta, Pradidali and Treviso, then walk to the Rosetta upper station and descend by lift. About 31.4 km / 19.5 mi of walking; the optional Fradusta summit is excluded. Confirm all three huts and the final lift before booking.

The trip outline above allows three mountain-hut nights plus separate arrival and finish nights in San Martino. Your operator may sell only the four-day/three-hut-night core; compare those inclusions rather than the headline trip length.

CHOOSE YOUR WALK

Lift to Rosetta · three full walking stages

3 walking days · 25.2 km / 15.7 mi

Arrive at Rosetta using the operating Colverde–Rosetta lifts, then walk the short upper-station-to-hut approach. Sleep at Rosetta before three full walking stages via Pradidali and Treviso. The 25.2 km / 15.7 mi figure covers those three stages only: the arrival approach and lift travel are extra. The hard final day is unchanged.

Three hut nights include Rosetta after the lift-assisted arrival. This is four mountain calendar days, with three full walking stages plus the arrival approach. The calculator also allows a valley finish night; add earlier travel nights separately.

Four-day walking circuit · direct 709

Walk up from San Martino, stay at Rosetta, Pradidali and Treviso, then walk to the Rosetta upper station and descend by lift. About 31.4 km / 19.5 mi of walking; the optional Fradusta summit is excluded. Confirm all three huts and the final lift before booking.

This is a starting plan, not a reservation. Confirm every overnight stay, walking stage and required lift or transfer for the same dates. Rest days add time and another night; they do not shorten a walking stage.

Your walking days

04 / THE PLACES ALONG THE WAY

Shape the days around the stays.

Reserve the three mountain nights in this order: Rosetta, Pradidali, Treviso. The fourth walking day ends at the upper lift, not another hut booking. Arrival and finish hotels in San Martino are separate. Shared refuge rooms are the normal plan; ask for a private room only where the refuge confirms one.

Know exactly which refuge bed you are reserving

On the official circuit identifies a staffed mountain refuge reached on foot. Village and base-town hotels are labelled separately; they are not substitutes for a booked mountain stage unless the access note explains the transfer.

Use both maps. "View stay on route map" shows the property with the route sequence. Google Maps is useful for roads, transfers and nearby services, but it is not the navigation source for a high-mountain circuit.

Read the button before booking. "Check dates" opens an online booking page. Email and form enquiries need a reply. Even with a confirmed room, arrange meals, trail access and luggage separately.

This is a planning guide, not a promise that a café, shop, meal service or tap will be open. Confirm dietary needs, packed lunches, dinner reservations and water access directly before walking.

LUGGAGE & BASE STORAGE

Carry the mountain kit; store the rest.

Plan the overnight pack and any valley storage separately.

Carry a refuge pack for the three mountain nights. Warm and waterproof layers, your hut liner, toiletries, food, water and emergency essentials stay with you. Plan to carry your pack throughout; do not count on hut-to-hut bag delivery.

ON THE MOUNTAIN

Your overnight kit goes with you.

Book meals with the beds, and confirm packed lunches and drinking-water arrangements separately. A staffed refuge does not guarantee an unrestricted potable tap or a shop.

BACK IN SAN MARTINO

Leave the suitcase by agreement.

Using the same hotel before and after? Ask whether it can keep your main bag, where it will be stored and whether there is a fee. Independent storage is not automatic.

PACKAGE STORAGE

Get there—and get back—simply

Train to Feltre, then Trentino Trasporti B501 via Fiera di Primiero to San Martino; Trento connections are another option. Verify actual dates and bus stops.

Open the practical transport guide

Reach the first walking morning

Allow an arrival night in San Martino and locate the Colverde base before setting off. Check the railway and bus connection for your actual date; do not rely on a generic summer timetable.

The lift closes the circuit

After the seven-hour final stage, descend by Rosetta cable car to Colverde, then by gondola to San Martino. Confirm both sections, the last departure and what your ticket covers. The published 2026 timetable ended on 27 September; it is not a promise for 2027.

Plan for an unavailable lift

Leave a generous margin. If the final lift is unavailable, ask the hut/operator about a pre-arranged alternative or additional night; do not improvise a long descent at the end of a seven-hour day.

For 2027, confirm all three hut openings, available beds and lift dates before booking travel. Published seasons and prices do not reserve a place.

SPECIAL STAYS & EXTRA DAYS

A little more time, or a more comfortable night.

These are optional additions to the walking plan. A room upgrade replaces that night’s room; an extra night or excursion needs its own booking and transport. Nothing below changes your selected stages automatically.

VALLEY FINISH · FOUR-STAR-SUPERIOR STAY

Hotel Savoia after the final lift

An official Palaronda partner, Savoia offers a garden-facing wellness area with a sauna, Turkish bath and Japanese-style bath. It is a comfortable place to pause after the long final stage.

How it fits: The hotel is in town on Via Passo Rolle. Complete both lift sections, then make the local town connection. Confirm the last descent before leaving Treviso; the hotel is not beside the upper station.

Nights: Book one finish night after the lift descent. Both planner choices already allow a finish hotel, so that adds no further night to their displayed outline. For a whole slow day afterward, book two finish nights: one extra beyond the selected outline.

Costs to add: Get a dated room and meal-plan quote. The owner says wellness access is included for hotel guests over 16; massages and treatments are separately requested. Check whether your trek package already includes the lift ticket; add only excluded transport and onward travel.

Confirm a one- or two-night stay, exact wellness age policy and hours. A late trail finish may leave no spa time that afternoon. For a package with a finish hotel already included, request any substitution or supplement before booking directly. No baggage storage or delivery is assumed.

Adding a rest day in the planner allows another night; it does not choose a property or reserve an activity. Confirm the room, meals, transport and any extra costs, then include them once in the budget below.
